The first hour of this morning was really hard. I did a write up and feature of Susan Reynolds' blog Boobs on Ice, which chronicles her journey with cancer. Today she is going in for surgery and her friends, family and those in the blogosphere are rallying around her. Also in the post was how to donate to the Frozen Peas Fund, a campaign for funds for breast cancer research.
I didn't think it would be hard to write. It's part of my job, I write stuff. But this come close to home and I was actually watery-eye as I wrote the Frozen Peas motto: We will not appease cancer.
My day to day isn't riddled with emotion about cancer. I beat it, I'm done, my doc visits have been fine so far. But to think of those who are still fighting, still working through the doctor visits, the testing, the surgeries...it still gets to me and it probably always will.
Hooray! It's so encouraging to hear that you've beaten cancer. Susan has taken heart from all the support on Twitter and blogs from PEAple who are getting on the Frozen Pea Fund bandwagon. Thanks so much for helping us spread the word. BTW, in the first 15 hours after we launched the fund, 118 people on 3 continents gave $3,500 to help eradicate this disease. While it's a drop in the bucket, financially speaking, it's a milestone in mobilizing an online community.
